I don't know the complete or accurate definition of a cenote but I believe they are underground caverns. The one we went to (and our guide was going to take us to another one that was even better but we didn't make it out there) was a large multi-room cavern filled 90% with fresh water and aquatic life...

This is the large outer gaurd tower on the north side of the city. I'm not going to post all my pics of Tulum but it was really interesting to see.

South of Playa about 60Km is the ruins of the Mayan city of Tulum.

More fun in the hut. Had a great hammock. Picked up a beautiful hammock in Playa on our shopping day - single person, double stitched - they wanted $80, I think. We got it for $30.
